Cupcycle: A reusable cup system for Tybee Island

Cupcycle is a reusable container system concept designed as part of my MFA thesis - The Impact of Marine Plastics on Georgia's Sea Turtles: Using Behavioral Science and Systems Thinking to Reduce Single-Use Plastic Pollution on Tybee Island.

Cupcycle, is a reusable cup system that keeps Tybee Beach clean and makes your bar-hopping experience more convenient and rewarding. The concept allows you to use a single cup at multiple participating restaurants, eliminating the need for disposable cups and reducing waste. Simply hold on to your Cupcycle cup as you explore the vibrant beachfront scene. When you’re ready to move on, just drop off your cup at one of the conveniently located Re-pods. Not only will you be contributing to a cleaner environment, but you’ll also receive cashback incentives and automatically enter into a chance to win exciting gift cards when you turn your cups in.

Re-pods are strategically placed in parking lanes so you never miss them on your way out

1. Grab a drink at your favorite restaurant
2. Use the same cup to order new drinks as you check out
other places
3. When you’re done, walk up to your nearest
re-pod, empty any trash like ice, lemons, limes, or paper
towels in the attached trash bin, scan the bottom of your cup on the re-pod, and drop your cup bottom down in any one of the three sections.
4. Get cash backs and chances to win gift cards!
